Connecting heritage

Provinces are linking their heritage sites into one continuous experience across borders. Loook provides the digital layer that automatically brings these stories to life exactly when and where they matter.

The challange

Many provinces aim to make their rich history more visible and guide visitors naturally past historical sites. Stories are everywhere—from archaeological finds and traditional crafts to windmills, monuments, and memorial sites—but for many visitors, the connection between them remains unseen.

Provinces are therefore looking for ways to better highlight these stories and link them together. By bringing individual heritage sites into a single, continuous experience, context is created: visitors understand the larger narrative behind locations, even when they are scattered across villages, landscapes, or across provincial and national borders.

The role of Loook

Loook develops a digital narrative layer that triggers automatically as visitors approach heritage locations. Short GPS-based stories bring history, traditions, and hidden gems to life at the exact moment someone passes them.

By linking stories, a cohesive thread is created that connects villages, landscapes, provinces, and countries. Thematic routes, educational assignments, and multilingual versions can be easily added, ensuring the experience remains attractive to diverse target audiences.

Additionally, Loook can support provincial heritage partners with a uniform look & feel, collaborative content coordination, and activation through visitor centers, museums, hiking hubs, and local organizations.

Future & scalability

A province can start small and later expand with new locations, themes, and partners. Thanks to the scalable story engine, the narrative layer can grow effortlessly without technical complexity.

In the future, multiple municipalities, museums, or even cross-border regions can join in, creating a comprehensive story that is accessible to a broad and international audience.

A detour becomes an experience

During the closure of the Papendrechtsebrug, Dordrecht is using Loook to guide travellers to the city centre in a different way. Not only in a practical sense, but also in a positive one: whether people travel by bike, on foot, by train, bus or ferry, they discover stories along the way that would normally remain hidden.

This turns a temporary mobility challenge into an opportunity to experience the city in a new way.
